The internet isn't just a technology that connects us to endless amounts of information, it also connects us to people. There are a variety of tools that we utilise such as, email, facebook and blogs that make communicating with others more accessible. Is it possible however, that these avenues create impersonal communication? And if so, what are the implications of this?

The Internet
The technology that seems to pull people away from face to face interaction is the Internet. It is possible to stay connected to friends, family, and to even meet new people online. However, this interaction is not the same as physically seeing a person and having a conversation. Typing in a sense has taken over the need for verbal communication. In my previous post I talked about dance and its ability to bring groups of people together. Without using speech you can create communication utilizing your body and mind. This is a powerful thing and not something that most experience everyday. I challenge everyone to attempt to create communication in a way that is not normally experienced in our everyday practices.

Dance just because...an alternative
I feel that it is important to think of things in life that keep us connected that are not of a technological nature. For me, dance is a great example of this. Dance brings people together in a traditional sense. It is public and open to everyone. Dance does not discriminate and anyone can try it. I understand that the world of dance is competitive but there are aspects of it, and ways to experience it that are just for pleasure. Computers, Blackberry's and Videos Games are put aside and one must use there body to create entertainment and feel a sense of fulfillment. Staying connected to your life is possible without electronic devices, and dance is an avenue for which to achieve this!
